The Soft Launch of BEAM Plus Food & Beverage Version 1.0 (Beta 0)

BEAM Society Limited (BSL) is pleased to announce the soft launch of BEAM Plus Food & Beverage (F&B) Version 1.0 (Beta 0), a sustainability tool tailored to Hong Kong’s unique F&B sector.

With the sector expanding from 8,926 restaurants in 2013 to 12,630 in 2022, its environmental impact has grown significantly — contributing 30% of municipal solid waste and increasing carbon emissions. The BEAM Plus F&B supports Hong Kong’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal by promoting sustainable practices like waste reduction, energy efficiency, and responsible sourcing, ensuring a balance between economic growth and environmental stewardship.

Key Highlights of BEAM Plus F&B Version 1.0 (Beta 0)

• Operational Focus: Kitchens and Back of House (BOH) operations account for ~60% of energy use, requiring industrial-grade solutions.

• Consumer Engagement: Front of House (FOH) initiatives, including plant-based menus and digital sustainability storytelling, boost brand loyalty.

• Flexibility: Hybrid certification models cater to diverse F&B business types.

Core Design Features

• User-Centric Approach: Designed for Hong Kong’s small spaces and high turnover, with intuitive interfaces and clear guidance.

• Fast Track Certification: Simplified processes reduce administrative burdens for time- and budget-constrained businesses.

• Sustainability Recognition: Incentivises waste diversion, renewable energy use, and ethical sourcing, aligning with ESG reporting and green finance.  

The beta version is released for the pilot assessment which will be further updated to incorporate input/ findings from the pilot testing.

Besides pilot testing, BSL would like to solicit views of stakeholders by publicising the BEAM Plus F&B Version 1.0 (Beta 0) in advance of its formal launch. Your valuable input is instrumental in perfecting the tool for more effective advancement of green environment and the well-being of our society.
