Hong Kong’s first dedicated certificate programme on urban–rural integration and sustainable development is back for 2026.
The Certificate Course on Urban–Rural Integration and Sustainability (CURIS) is co-organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) School of Architecture, the Centre for Sustainable Placemaking and Urban–Rural Regeneration (SPUR), and Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation.
BSL is proud to serve as a Supporting Organisation, helping to promote this important capacity-building initiative to architects, engineers, planners and sustainability professionals across Hong Kong.
Anchored in Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis Development Strategy and the Greater Bay Area vision, this 50-hour programme equips participants with practical tools to drive ESG-compliant, integrated urban–rural regeneration and rural revitalisation.
Highlights of the Course
• Expert-led lectures on ESG, sustainable planning, placemaking, and rural revitalisation
• Immersive field trips across Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and the Greater Bay Area
• Direct engagement with villagers, planners, conservationists, and multi-sector stakeholders
• Cross-sector teaching team of 20+ leading practitioners and scholars
• Multidisciplinary perspectives covering policy, environment, community development, and spatial innovation
Signature Field Studies
- Northern Metropolis sites: San Tin, Long Valley, Ho Sheung Heung
- Cultural landscape visits: Sha Tau Kok, Lai Chi Wo, Kat O
- Greater Bay Area extension: Kaiping’s Tangkou Town
Programme Details
Dates: 8 April – 23 May 2026
Duration: 50 hours (11 weekly evening sessions + weekend field trips)
Venue: The Chinese University of Hong Kong + field sites in Hong Kong & Greater Bay Area
Language: English (supplemented by Cantonese & Putonghua)
Tuition: HKD 13,500 (Application fee: HKD 150)
Youth Scholarship: Up to HKD 5,000 (sponsored by Lee Hysan Foundation) – for Hong Kong residents aged 18–39
Certification Official CUHK certificate awarded upon ≥80% attendance and satisfactory performance.
