MK LEUNG is the laureate of the inaugural Singapore Institute of Architects – Uniseal G-Architect Award 2014, bestowed annually on an Asian architect for outstanding contribution to advance the theory and practice of sustainability.
MK took up the position of the Director of Sustainable Design in 2012 and becomes a Director of the firm since 2015 to steer sustainable design in the firm. Projects under his direct leadership include the award-winning Chai Wan Campus for THEi, the first zero carbon building in Hong Kong, the pioneering sustainability master planning for Hong Kong Science Park Phase 3, Urban and Green Design for the Future Town Centre and the District Commercial Node in Hung Shui Kiu New Development Area, URA district-based urban renewal conceptual master-planning for Kowloon City Action Area 1. He also spearheads a number of influential research such as the latest BEAM Plus New Buildings v2.0, Design for Government Infrastructures in Hong Kong under Extreme Temperatures and Study for Design and Construction Requirements for Residential Buildings for Energy Efficiency. His latest on-going works the review of Building (Planning) regulations and the study of Sponge City Concept for Public Buildings.
MK graduated with distinction from the Department of Architecture, Hong Kong University in 1992 and pursued his further study on green architecture / passive environmental design in the University of Cambridge, UK in 1995- 1996. He has been accredited in several environmental related affiliations, including a LEED Accredited Professional in 2008, a BEAM Pro (NB and EB) in 2010 and a BEAM Pro (ND) in 2016, a BREEAM Accredited Professional in 2015, a WELL Accredited Professional in 2017 and a member of WELL Faculty (IWBI) in 2018.
He has been active in academic and professional circles related to the issue of building performance, energy efficient building design and green architecture.
