Technical Review Committee announces the following Technical Circular Letters and FAQs, please download the self-explanatory letters below:

2019.160 EU 1 Energy Performance – Performance-Based Approach

FAQ - BEAM Plus
 
(EU) - New
 

a. Degrading factor on the COP of HVAC installations shall NOT be applied to condition (i).
b. Degrading factor on the COP of HVAC installations shall be APPLIED to condition (ii).
c. Degrading factor on the COP of HVAC installations shall NOT be applied to condition (iii).

(WU) - Update & New
 
WU 5, For BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.2, how is WU 5 applied to different building types?
The objective of this credit is to encourage the wider use of water efficient appliances in domestic premises, therefore this credit is only applicable to domestic buildings[1] and water appliances are provided by developer.

To achieve this under BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.2, water appliances shall have WSD WELS label Grade 1 or 2.

Equipment not listed in the WSD WELS scheme (for example commercial dishwashing machines) are excluded from assessment under this credit.

[1] Domestic buildings shall mean domestic premises, apartment buildings, serviced apartments, university halls of residence, residential buildings, care homes, hospice, or buildings providing similar residential accommodation.

The objective of this credit is to encourage the wider use of water efficient appliances in domestic premises, therefore this credit is only applicable to domestic buildings[1] and water appliances are provided by developer.

To achieve this under BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.1, water appliances shall demonstrate the water use efficiency is 20% better than same capacity appliances on the market, or have WSD WELS label Grade 1 or 2.

WU 5, For BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 1.1 & 1.2, what type of appliances shall be included into the assessment of this credit?

The assessment of this credit ONLY covers washing machines that have washing capacity normally not exceeding 10 kg for household use.

Washing machines that have larger capacity or for industrial use or have no spin extraction capacity or use non-electric sources are excluded from the assessment of this credit.

1. For horizontal drum type washing machines, the machine shall achieve water efficiency or Grade 1 or 2 or water consumption equivalent to 11.0 litre/kg/cycle or less.

2. For impeller type or agitator type washing machines, the machine shall achieve water efficiency of Grade 1 or 2 or water consumption equivalent to 19.0 litre/kg/cycle or less.

For the machine specified above, the Applicant shall substantiate the claimed water consumption performances by submitting either (i) extracted records from the registers of WELS products published by Water Supplies Department or (ii) technical data showing the claimed water consumption and the methodology used in measuring the claimed water consumption [1].

Please also note that the criteria on water use efficiency is 20% better than same capacity appliances on the market under BEAM Plus v.1.1 is no longer applicable to the credit. However, if certain calculation methodology has been approved in PA, the Technical Review Committee shall continue to honor such methodology during FA.

[1] The claimed water consumption shall be measured in accordance with IES 60456, JIS C 9606, or other equivalent international standards as stipulated under The Voluntary Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme on Washing Machines.
