BEAM Plus Interiors (BI) Version 2.0
Launch Ceremony
Co-organised by BEAM Society Limited (BSL) and Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), the BEAM Plus BI v2.0 Launch Ceremony has been concluded on 28 Nov 2023, with the presence of 80 notable guests and the support from over 40 organisations across sectors. We were honoured to have invited Miss WONG Shuk Han, Diane, JP, Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the Government of the HKSAR to be our officiating guest, together with Dr the Hon LAM Ching-choi, SBS, JP, Chairman of Council for Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Development, Prof WONG Kit-lung, Simon, BBS, JP, Chairman of Environmental Campaign Committee, Mr LI Ho Kin, Chairperson of BSL, and Dr CHEUNG Tin-cheung, SBS, Chairman of the HKGBC.
The upgraded green interior assessment tool is specifically designed for interior fitout, renovation and refurbishment works, with significant enhancements in Adaptability, Simplification, Certainty and Human-Centricity. Apart from the upgraded manual for non-residential units, the first-ever assessment tool for green domestic interiors in Hong Kong has been developed, aiming at expanding the assessment scope to cover residential spaces. The new Tool is now available for new project registration and manuals can be downloaded here.

BSL Joins Forces with the Green Building Industry Alliance
in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
BSL is pleased to announce the partnership with Shenzhen Green Building Association (SGBA) and being awarded as the Vice Chairman Unit of the Green Building Industry Alliance in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (粵港澳大灣區綠色建築產業聯盟). This strategic partnership aims to facilitate the green building movement in the GBA by fostering collaborations among various green building organisations across the region. The Award Ceremony was held as a concurrent event at the Sustainable Built Environment Asia-Pacific 2023 in Shenzhen on 23-24 Nov.
Besides, BSL signed a MoU agreement with SGBA, representing our commitment to a long-term partnership focusing on promoting green building development between Shenzhen and Hong Kong through talents incubation, assessment design and promotion. The agreement was signed by Ms WANG Xiangyu, Secretary-General of SGBA and Ir CS HO, General Manager of BSL, under the witness of Mr WANG Hong, President of SGBA and Mr LI Ho Kin, Chairperson of BSL.

Updated Assessment Procedure - The Introduction of
Compliance Assessment (CA)
Following the Buildings Department's announcement regarding the enhanced Gross Floor Area concession mechanism under Practice Note for Authorized Persons, Registered Structural Engineers and Registered Geotechnical Engineers (PNAP) APP-151, BSL has introduced an optional procedure designed to aid applicants in adhering to the latest pre-requisites for granting GFA concessions on 28 Sept, click here to learn more.

BEAM Plus Certificate
Presentation Ceremony 2023
Jointly organised by BSL and the HKGBC, BEAM Plus Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2023 was successfully held at the B P International on 7 Dec 2023. Officiating at the ceremony were Mr David LAM Chi-man, JP, Under Secretary for Development of the Government of the HKSAR and Mr Victor TAI Sheung-shing JP, Under Secretary for Housing of the Government of the HKSAR. BSL Achieved an ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Certificate for iBEAM
The iBEAM Assessment Automation System developed and owned by BSL was assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information Security Management Standards (ISMS) in November 2023. BSL has put in place high-level security measures and best operating practices of iBEAM, providing the industry with a reliable and secure platform in compliance with the international standards.

Closing Ceremony of Jockey Club BEAM Plus in Schools Project

Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, organised by Business Environment Council, co-organised by BSL and HKGBC, and supported by Education Bureau, Environment and Ecology Bureau, and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of the Government of the HKSAR, the Closing Ceremony of the Jockey Club BEAM Plus in Schools Project ended with great success, presenting BEAM Plus Existing Schools v1.0 certificate to 125 schools.
Ir CS HO, General Manager of BSL served as the moderator for the school management sharing, guiding the invited principals to share their insights on fostering green campuses through hardware upgrades and environmental education.

Sound Insulation in Residential Buildings - Acoustic Resilient Floor Mat

Representatives from the Environmental Protection Department - Mr Joe LEUNG, Senior Environmental Protection Officer and Mr Stephen CHONG, Environmental Protection Officer gave an overview of domestic noise issues in Hong Kong at the CPD webinar, supplemented with technical information in designing and applying sound insulation for better indoor sound environment in residential buildings and an associated practice note issued to address such concerns. Ir Irene LEUNG, Project Assessor of BSL also talked about the relevant updates on the credit requirements of HWB 6 under BEAM Plus New Buildings v2.0 in the training.

Technical Visit to Baguio’s Waste Sorting and Recycling Centre and BSF Hatch

A delegation of BSL’s directors and members paid a visit to the Waste Sorting and Recycling Centre of Baguio Green Group in Fanling, and the BSF Hatch, a chicken farm organic waste recycling plant in Tuen Mun, to learn about the latest waste disposal and recycling trends in Hong Kong, sorting line and facilities of Baguio to separate and bale the recyclables, as well as the organic waste recycling process and technology.

Eco Expo Asia 2023

Organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organised by Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Government of HKSAR, BSL joined the Fair at the AsiaWorld-Expo as the supporting organisation. We have met different fellow members of the industry and visitors from diverse sectors and regions in the four-day event, with an aim to enrich people’s understanding of BSL and green buildings, as well as to expand the reach of BEAM Plus assessment tools beyond Hong Kong.

Knowledge Sharing on BEAM Plus Submission of BEAM Plus New Buildings v1.1, v1.2 and v2.0 Assessment Tools

Mr Jimmy YAM, Assistant Manager - Project Assessment of BSL delivered a talk at the CPD webinar on the rules, regulations and common mistakes through case sharing to enable the attendees to gain better understanding on how the assessment criteria are interpreted under different versions of BEAM Plus NB, as well as the recent enhancements in BEAM Plus assessment practices to assist the industry in streamlining the overall assessment practice.

Panel Discussion at CIC Global Construction Sustainability Forum and Exhibition (GCSFE) 2023

BSL hosted a panel on "Green Building, Green Digitalisation and Green Finance" as the event sponsor at the CIC GCSFE 2023, jointly organised by the Development Bureau of the Government of the HKSAR and Construction Industry Council. The speakers are Mr Tsun CHEN, Secretary General of Hong Kong Green Finance Association and Mr Kingsley CHAN, BIM Leader of Gammon Construction Limited, and the discussion was moderated by Mr Tim LO, Head of Business & System Development of BSL.

BSL 13th Anniversary Dinner

The 13th Anniversary Dinner of BSL was successfully concluded at Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East with the participation of over 120 government officials and esteemed guests, including the officiating guests - Ms LINN Hon Ho, Bernadette, JP, Secretary for Development of the Government of the HKSAR and Ms HO Wing Yin, Winnie, JP, Secretary for Housing of the Government of the HKSAR.
Apart from the knowledge sharing on "Landslide Risk in Hong Kong and the Sustained Mitigation Measures" presented by Ir Raymond KS CHAN, the Ex-Director of Geotechnical Engineering Office to facilitate expertise exchange among the key players in the industry, BSL also took the opportunity to present souvenirs to retiring committee members as a token of appreciation.

Site Visit to BEAM Plus Interiors (BI) v2.0 Beta Version Platinum Project - Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office at 9/F Yasumoto International Academic Park, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The delegation of BSL paid a visit to Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Office of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) which has achieved Platinum rating under BEAM Plus BI v2.0 Beta Version, marking it the first smart office renovation of its kind at CUHK. Participants explored the agile office design and learnt about a range of smart office features that enhance efficiency and productivity through the presentation and guided tour led by the representatives from Campus Development Office.

Understanding Carbon Audit in Hong Kong
